The Strimbu Memorial Fund was established in the image of Nick Strimbu, Jr. His contributions to the many charities and organizations he supported during his life provided the spark that encouraged his family and friends to continue this legacy after his death.
Since its creation in December of 1990, the fund has provided millions of dollars in donations and scholarships. The fund also supports local economic development and many charitable organizations.
The fund has a major event that has enabled us to perpetuate Mr. Strimbu's legacy, the annual Strimbu Memorial Fund Barbeque. Held each May, the event hosts 1,600 of the surrounding communities' finest citizens. The event has sold out every year since its inception and last year netted almost $200,000 in proceeds. More detailed information on this event can be found on the "Fundraisers" page.
As one of its main focuses, the fund annually grants thirteen $2,000 college scholarships and one $10,000 college scholarship to local high school seniors planning to further their education. Leadership and self-reliance are the two most important criteria that are required in order to receive one of these scholarships. These requirements were established to mirror the example that Nick demonstrated during his lifetime. Our Mission
The mission of the Strimbu Memorial Fund is to perpetuate the legacy left by Nick Strimbu, Jr. The Fund supports economic development initiatives in the Trumbull and Mercer County region, provides scholarship awards to local high school students, and assists humanitarian efforts within local agencies, as well as to individuals. We aspire to give people a hand up, not a hand out.
Strimbu Memorial Fund 31st Annual BBQ - May 5, 2021
What a year it has been! As our country slowly returns to a sense of normalcy, we welcome everyone back to our annual fundraiser, the Strimbu Memorial BBQ. We truly missed hosting the event last year and are anxious to see all of our friends in attendance once again. The BBQ will include proper government protocols for a large group event, but will offer plenty of opportunities for all guests to have fun in a safe environment. Due to the fact that we must social distance our tables and limit the number of people in attendance, an increase in our ticket price was necessary.
As we proudly celebrate our 31st annual Strimbu BBQ, we continue to be honored and humbled by the community support our event has received over the last 31 years. Your support has enabled us to continue our legacy of giving a hand up, not a hand out, to hundreds of individuals and organizations in need. This year’s event will be held on Wednesday, May 5, at Yankee Lake Ballroom in Brookfield, Ohio. The evening will include Jeff Chrystal’s mouthwatering BBQ menu as well as entertainment by the Bluewater Kings Band. We will encourage our guests to shop our new contactless Virtual Auction accessible through each guest’s own cell phone. The Auction will showcase merchandise supplied by generous donors like yourself, and will be available to view online 2 weeks prior to the BBQ. Our guests can even get a head start at bidding on their favorites one week prior to the event.
Since its inception in 1990, the Strimbu Memorial Fund has provided over $3.8 million to support academic scholarships, local economic development groups, non-profits, and other charitable organizations. We hope you will continue to partner with the Strimbu Memorial Fund and help us to make this year our best BBQ ever by contributing an item or service that best represents your business. An auction form is included for you to review.
Tickets for the 31th annual Strimbu Memorial Fund BBQ are available at a cost of $150 each. Tables can be reserved if 8 or more tickets are purchased. If you have any additional questions or wish to purchase tickets, please contact Pam Yersky at (330) 448-4046, ext. 134. We also encourage you to check out our website at www.strimbumemorialfund.org.
