BROOKFIELD, Ohio—The Strimbu Memorial Fund announced at its yearly distribution committee meeting that it has awarded nearly $175,000 in grants to area organizations and individuals in 2014, according to Board President Paul O’Brien.
Since its inception in 1990, the Strimbu Memorial Fund has provided millions of dollars in donations and scholarships, as well as supported local economic development and many charitable organizations.
“The Strimbu Memorial Fund was created to perpetuate the work of the late Nick Strimbu Jr., who had a passion for leading individuals and economic development agencies in order to attract, assist and retain the industrial base of the valley,” said O’Brien.
Grants awarded include those to:
- The American Red Cross of Mercer County
- The Beatitude House
- Buhl Park
- Community Library of the Shenango Valley
- Buhl Recreation Center
- Joshua’s Haven
- Penn-Northwest Development Corp.
- Prince of Peace Center
- The Salvation Army
- United Way of Mercer County
- Waterfire Sharon
- Community Food Warehouse
- e’Center @ LindenPointe
- Meals on Wheels Shenango Valley
- The Hope Center for Arts & Technology
- Trumbull County Fund for Our Economic Future
- Shenango Valley Memorial Animal Shelter
- West Hill Ministries
- Individuals in need
